Who is Buster Murdaugh?

Buster Murdaugh is the grandson of the late Randolph Murdaugh, a former state lawmaker, and solicitor who was a key figure in the state’s Democratic Party. Randolph’s son, Alex Murdaugh, became a prominent attorney in his own right and a key player in the legal world of South Carolina. Alex’s wife and Buster’s mother, Maggie Murdaugh, was a former schoolteacher and school board member.

He attended the University of South Carolina for both his undergraduate and law degrees. While he was attending University, he was kicked out because he was caught for plagiarism. Buster still has not gone back to school after this incident, following the tragic incident where his father murdered his mother, Maggie and his younger brother, Paul. According to the Murdaugh’s lawyer, Buster has put his thirst to go to law school at halt for time being and that he does not intend to start anytime soon. No one is sure about what Buster does for a living but prior to his father’s arrest, he worked at his law firm.

In June of 2021, tragedy struck the Murdaugh family. Buster’s mother, Maggie and his younger brother, Paul, were both found shot to death at the family’s hunting lodge in rural Colleton County. The case quickly made headlines, and the community was stunned by the violence that had occurred.

On February 21, 2023, Buster Murdaugh took the stand as the initial witness for the defense. During his testimony, he asserted his father’s innocence, stating that the Murdaugh household possessed an extensive collection of firearms, and his brother Paul habitually left them strewn about the premises. In addition, Buster attested that his father was in a state of profound emotional distress on the night of the killings. As per PEOPLE, he testified that his father was shattered by the events and consumed by heartbreak.
