Following this tragic incident, the Nashville gun laws have received a lot of backlash from people around the world. Multiple social media users criticized the way the US government regulated gun violence on Twitter.

One user on Twitter commented on the issue stating, “397 kids have been killed by gun violence in 86 days this year. Tennessee has some of the weakest gun laws in the country. It’s the fucking guns. It’s also the fucking Republicans that won’t do anything about it.”

Another said, “Three students lost their lives at a private school in Nashville today in part because guns are so easy to get here in Tennessee thanks to lax gun laws. If you try and tell me that “now is not the time to get political” then you are simply part of the problem. I’m sick.”

A Twitter user, explaining the gun laws in Tennessee said, “Gun laws in Tennessee: NO state permit required to purchase. NO firearm registration. NO owner license required. NO permit required for concealed carry. NO permit required for open carry. NO background checks for private sales.”

Shannon Watts, the founder of Mothers Demand Action, an organization that promotes gun safety, condemned Governor Bill Lee for not issuing a statement following the shooting. “Tennessee @GovBillLee hasn’t had time yet to tweet his thoughts and prayers for Covenant School, but when he does, remind him that this is exactly why police and citizens opposed the permitless carry bill he signed into law at a gun maker’s factory in 2021,” Watts tweeted.

Moreover, the site of a school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, on Monday included a woman who claims to have survived the 2022 Highland Park tragedy, in which a gunman murdered seven people and injured a great number more.

The woman approached the TV cameras and said, “Aren’t you guys tired of covering this? Aren’t you guys tired of being here and having to cover all of these mass shootings?”

“These mass shootings will continue to happen until our lawmakers step up and pass gun safety legislation,” the activist continued, adding, “We can’t even pass safe storage laws to protect kids from getting a hold of weapons that they shoot each other with.”
