Multiple people have been injured in a shooting at a private school Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee, according to local authorities.
The shooter was shot dead after being “engaged by” officers, police officials said. At least four people have died, including the suspect, according to Vanderbilt Medical Center. Authorities at the medical center say three young students were brought to Monroe Carell Jr Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt with gunshot wounds. All three were declared dead after arrival. Two adults were also admitted to the hospital and pronounced dead.
“An active shooter event has taken place at Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, on Burton Hills Dr. The shooter was engaged by MNPD and is dead,” Metro Nashville Police Department wrote on Twitter.
“Student reunification with parents is at Woodmont Baptist Church, 2100 Woodmont Blvd,” it added.

US Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee released a statement saying, “Chuck & I are heartbroken to hear about the shooting at Covenant School in Nashville. My office is in contact with federal, state, & local officials, & we stand ready to assist. Thank you to the first responders working on site. Please join us in prayer for those affected.”

The Nashville Fire Department stated on Twitter that there were “multiple victims” but their conditions were not immediately clear.

“Parents coming to the school should go to 20 Burton Hills at this time, this is an active scene,” the departed said.
The Covenant School has around 200 students from preschool to sixth grade. It was founded as a ministry of Covenant Presbyterian Church in 2001, according to the school’s website.
The Metro Nashville PD said that the school was already working on reunifying parents and children a safe distance away from Burton Hills Blvd the school is on.

The Nashville branch of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) has also deployed agents to assist the MNPD in responding to the attack.
