A video shared on Twitter shows passengers standing on the seats of a New York City bus after its floor fills up with water as the driver drove through the flash floods on Wednesday night.

The video was shared by Joe English, a press officer for UNICEF based in New York. Calling the driver of the bus ‘Hero’, Joe wrote, “Hero bus driver managed to get us safely through the 3-4 feet of rain coursing down the boulevard, but only seemed to be getting worse. Finally made it through to the higher ground and a fellow passenger exclaims ‘oh no I missed my stop.”

Here’s the video

In the video, one can see two women standing on the seat of the bus to avoid getting wet. As the driver drove through the lower passage, one of the woman screams, “I am alive” to which someone, presumably the drive replies “Good.”

Joe also shared another video of the New York street at Queens Boulevard in Maspeth/Corona, which was flooded with water that made it seem like a river.

“Queens Boulevard in Maspeth/Corona is a literal river at the moment. Bus fully flooded driving through, multiple cars stuck in the water. Absolutely insane,” Joe wrote on Twitter with a video.

Meanwhile, several New Yorkers have reacted to the flood situation in the city, which is probably happening for the first time and shared videos/images firm around their area.

On Wednesday,  New York City was put under ‘flash flood emergency‘ for the first time after heavy rains caused by Hurricane Ida inundated the roads and other facilities leading to the airport closures and state of emergency declarations in their state and neighbouring New Jersey reported AFP.

The New York City administration has also issued a travel ban on September 2 due to severe weather conditions.

The storm has also caused power disruption in various parts of the city where at least 5,300 suffered electricity cuts and disruptions, tweeted Mayor Bill de Blasio.
