Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will join Donald Trump in the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. Haley, who has served as ambassador to the United Nations during former President Trump’s administration, will make the announcement on Feb. 15.

Nikki Haley was born Nimrata Nikki Randhawa on January 20, 1972. She is 51 years old. Her parents are Indian Punjabi Sikh. Her father, Ajit Singh Randhawa, and her mother, Raj Kaur Randhawa, immigrated to the US from Amritsar, Punjab, India. Her father was formerly a professor at Punjab Agricultural University, and her mother received her law degree from the University of Delhi.

Haley has a sister and two brothers.

Haley is married to Michael Haley with whom she has two children, a daughter Rena and son Nalin.

Career:

Haley worked for FCR Corporation, a waste management and recycling company, before joining her family’s clothing business. She later became active in civic affairs. In 1998, she was named to the board of directors of the Orangeburg County Chamber of Commerce. Haley chaired the Lexington Gala to raise funds for a local hospital. She also served on the Lexington Medical Foundation, Lexington County Sheriff’s Foundation, and West Metro Republican Women.

She was first elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2004, she served three terms. In 2010, she was elected governor of South Carolina, and she won re-election in 2014. She was the first female governor of South Carolina, and the youngest governor in the country. In 2017, she became the first Indian American in a presidential cabinet.
