No shooting occurred at the Walmart store in Homewood on Friday, Deputy Chief Kelly Strayer told Patch, adding that “social media reports of an active shooter are not accurate.”

Police responded to the store just before 3:40 pm on Friday after receiving reports of “disturbance” at the mall.

Reports of an active shooter inside the mall started doing the rounds on social media. 

“Check on your people. My sister just texted me that there’s an active shooter at the Walmart in Homewood,” one person tweeted.

“There’s an active shooter at the Walmart in Homewood, IL. Check on your people!” another person tweeted. 

Police refuted these reports and said that they were investigating the initial disturbance call.
