A man was shot as police officers served a search warrant on Wednesday, reports CNN. According to the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened when one of its law enforcement officers, was trying to serve a search warrant.

A release from the sheriff’s office said the shooting happened in the 400 block of Perry Street in Elizabeth City around 8:30 AM, a local media report said. 

The identity of the deputy has not been shared yet. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is taking over the probe into the shooting, the release added.

The City Council called an emergency meeting for Wednesday evening to discuss the incident, CNN reports.
