The NYPD is currently looking for a suspect, age 17, in connection with the stabbing of O’Shae Sibley. According to the NYPD, a “possible biased incident” is being looked into in this case.

O’Shae Sibley, a professional dancer, was stabbed last Saturday night at the Mobil petrol station at 1921 Coney Island Avenue in Midwood, Brooklyn. Witnesses said that Sibley and his buddies stopped for petrol on their way home after leaving a beach party. The friends were instructed to stop dancing by a group of males who approached them as they were enjoying a song from Beyonce’s “Renaissance” album. Following a brief disagreement, a man stabbed Sibley in the upper abdomen.

Otis Pena, one of Sibley’s closest friends, applied pressure to the incision in an effort to halt the bleeding, but it proved ineffective. Sibley was brought to Maimonides Medical Centre, where doctors declared him to be dead.

Witnesses at the scene said that the males verbally harassed Sibley and his friends with homophobic epithets before the assault. The NYPD is presently looking into this event as a hate crime.

A 17-year-old suspect is said to have been identified from surveillance footage and is currently on the run. Law enforcement on the scene said the suspect, who claimed he identified as Muslim during the altercation, was offended by the dancing of Sibley and the outfit he was dressed in.

“He had a problem with them dancing, he wanted them to stop dancing, he started arguing with them. And then after a few fights and back and forth arguing, he pulled out a knife and stabbed him,” witness Sayeda Haider said.
