Four people were shot and wounded in a mass shooting incident near O Black, Chicago on Wednesday evening. The incident took place in the 6300 block of South Calumet Avenue in Grand Crossing, around the corner from 6400 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Drive.

The location, called O Block, is one of the most notorious streets of Chicago. It includes Parkway Gardens low-income apartment complex.

Chicago police said that the shooting took place at around 6:17 PM on Wednesday. A boy, 16 years old, was shot in the chest. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, authorities said.

The other victims were taken to the same hospital and they were doing well. Two of them, 39 and 42 years old, were shot in the lead. Police said that a 22-year-old man suffered a graze wound on his leg.

“Multiple individuals have been shot in the 6400 block of S. King Dr. in the 3rd Dist. Conditions unknown. Area1Detectives investigating. Additional information to follow,” Chicago Police Communication tweeted.

On July 4 last year, another shooting took place in the same area. Five were shot in the 6500 block of King Drive. It was the same apartment complex, only a couple blocks south of Wednesday’s scene.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama is from O Block. Popular rapper King Von, who was shot and killed in Atlanta in 2020, named his debut album “Welcome to O’Block”.

The block was named after Odee Perry, who was gunned down just around the corner in 2011 when he was 20. Police sources said he was killed by a 17-year-old female gang assassin named Gakirah Barnes. She was killed in 2014.
