A steam engine explosion at the Oak Grove Power Plant in Franklin left one dead on Wednesday, according to Robertson County Emergency Management.

Reports of a boiler explosion reached emergency workers around 9 a.m. After the first responders reached the scene, they found a person seriously injured, who later succumbed to their injuries. No other injuries have been reported and the area is said to be “under control.”

A company spokesperson said that the blast happened while a team was trying to commission a new auxiliary boiler and a team present at the site made the decision to call 911. The spokesperson added that all the contractors have been accounted for and there are no other reports of any injuries.

“Our sincerest thoughts and prayers are with the families of those impacted by this unfortunate event, and we would like to thank the local first responders for their quick response and efforts to render aid. Luminant will continue to work closely with the contractor’s employer and state and federal regulators to investigate the cause of this event,” the spokesperson said, in a release to 15ABC.

According to emergency responders, no threat against the public has been noted after the incident. The plant is located between Bremond and Franklin.

The power plant is continuing to operate.
