Only three buildings in Oklahoma were created by Frank Lloyd Wright, and one of them is the Westhope in Tulsa. It is currently listed for sale for $7.995 million and is referred to as “the most significant property to become available in this generation” in the listing.

The Harold Price Jr. House and the 19-story Price Tower in Bartlesville are the other two. Price Tower inspired The Classen, now an apartment tower, at 2200 N Classen Blvd. in Oklahoma City. Wright’s contribution to the Prairie School movement in architecture continues to influence design in OKC.

The Frank Lloyd Wright-designed and built Westhope, the 10,000-square-foot mansion is located at 3704 S. Birmingham Ave., is for sale and is being marketed by Rob Allen of Sage Sotheby’s International in Oklahoma City.

Wright created the residence in 1929 for his cousin Richard Lloyd Jones, who was the Tulsa Tribune’s publisher at the time. In 1972, it was included in the list of the National Register of Historic Places.

“The innovative architect built the home with an abundance of windows — 5,200 panes of glass were used — that allow natural light to pour through, with textile blocks stacked into vertical columns lining the outside, giving Westhope its striped appearance. Wooden accents, furniture, and cabinetry — a nod to Jones’ love of ‘organic’ — are found throughout the home,” the Tulsa World reported.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the expansive concrete and glass mansion has undergone a two-year restoration process that included fixing its front, modernizing the kitchen, removing carpeted flooring, and refurbishing the pool and grounds.
