The Macy’s
Thanksgiving Day parade kicked off on Thursday, November 24, marking the 96th
year of Macy’s legendary processions.

American singer, dancer, and actress Paula Abdul performed at the procession along with several other stars. Many noticed Abdul lip-syncing her 1988 breakthrough song Straight Up during her performance. Minutes after the performance, she started trending on social media with many trolling the 60-year-old singer for lip-syncing.

Business analyst Darren Rovell tweeted, “Tell me that the Thanksgiving Day Parade is losing its steam without telling me the Thanksgiving Day Parade is losing its steam”

“Why is Paula Abdul dancing and lip syncing with Right Said Fred rejects on Thanksgiving? Did we give all our holiday traditions budget to Ukraine this year?” wrote one Twitter user.

However, many others supported Paula and her ability to still perform effortlessly in the parade.

“I didn’t know I needed a lip syncing Paula Abdul wearing a sequined jumpsuit tap dancing in front of a turkey float with Flava Flav cheering her on from the audience but here we are and I’m thankful,” one Twitter user wrote.

Parody impersonator Kyle Koster tweeted, “Look at 60-year-old Paula Abdul lip-synching Straight Up while dancing at 60 percent speed atop a Jeannie-O turkey float and tell me the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade isn’t one of our best annual spectacles.”

“Let’s not do too much on Paula Abdul. She’s 60 years old giving you choreography, while pop girls a third her age can barely do a two-count,” wrote another.
