United States Vice President Kamala Harris agreed with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about India being “a victim of terrorism for several decades”, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said in a statement on Friday. 

Shringla said, “US Vice President Kamala Harris agreed with PM Modi on cross-border terrorism & India had been a victim of terrorism for several decades now. She also agreed on the need to closely monitor Pakistan‘s support for such terror groups”, ANI reported.

Shringla added, “On terrorism, US VP Kamala Harris suo moto referred to Pakistan’s role in that regard. She said that there were terror groups working there. She asked Pakistan to take action so that these groups don’t impact US security & of India” while describing PM Modi’s meeting with Harris.

Harris said that it is incumbent on the two nations to protect democracies in the best interests of the people of the two countries.

“As democracies around the world are under threat, it is imperative that we defend democratic principles and institutions within our respective countries and around the world. And that we maintain what we must do to strengthen democracies at home and it is incumbent on our nations to of course protect democracies in the best interests of people of our countries,” she said, according to PTI reports.

The two world leaders spoke on multiple issues shared by the countries and hinted at strengthing India-US relations. The highlights of the joint address included addressing the COVID-19 pandemic and climate crisis. 

PM Modi also invited the United States Vice President to visit India.

In a tweet after the meeting, the Indian PM wrote, “Glad to have met @VP @KamalaHarris. Her feat has inspired the entire world. We talked about multiple subjects that will further cement the India-USA friendship, which is based on shared values and cultural linkages.”
