Jacob Chansley, the ‘QAnon Shaman’ of US Capitol riots was sentenced to 41 months in prison. The Justice Department sought a harsh sentence for Chansley to set an example for the rioters who struck upon the US Capitol on January 6.

Chansley became famous as the QAnon Shaman. During the Capitol Riots, his pictures were widely shared pictures of him wearing face paint and a headdress inside the Senate chamber. Chansley is one of the first felony defendants among more than 660 Capitol riot cases to receive a punishment.

Jacob Chansley’s pictures at the Capitol went viral because of his bizarre appearance. He was among the first 30 rioters inside the building and he forced his way into the Senate dais that was quickly vacated by Vice President Mike Pence.

In court, Chansley spoke about his guilt and admitted that he now felt that it was wrong to enter the Capitol on the day and pleaded that he was not a domestic terrorist or an insurrectionist.

“I was in solitary confinement because of me. Because of my decision. I broke the law…I should do what Gandhi would do and take responsibility,” Chansley said promising that he would never have to be jailed again.

When he was first arrested, Chansley had pleaded then-President Donald Trump for a pardon. He had even gone on a hunger strike demanding he be given organic food while in custody.

In addition to his prison sentence, Jacob Chansley was also sentenced to 36 months of supervised release. He has been ordered to pay $100 in restitution.

While addressing the court on Wednesday, Chansley said that he has been asking himself, “What would Jesus do?” He has been in custody for nearly 11 months since being arrested.
