On Friday, Queen Elizabeth threw a reception for the heads of government of the Group of Seven richest nations, i.e. the G7 leaders who are meeting for a three-day summit, amidst the foliage of the world’s biggest indoor rainforest, where she met US President Joe Biden.

“Are you supposed to be looking as if you’re enjoying yourselves?” Queen Elizabeth joked as she sat for a photocall with the G7 world leaders, eliciting chuckles; Reuters reported.

Reuters quoted Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister, as saying in response, “Yes, we have been enjoying ourselves in spite of appearances.”

It was the monarch’s first meeting with Biden as President of the United States. He is the 13th president of the United States she has met during her long 69-year reign.

On Thursday, Biden’s wife Jill, who accompanied him at the Eden Project event, told Reuters, “Joe and I are both looking forward to meeting the queen. That’s an exciting part of the visit for us.”

After the meeting, they are scheduled to have tea with the Queen at Windsor Castle on Sunday.

The other prominent members of the British royal family were there, including the 95-year-old monarch’s son and heir Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, as well as grandson Prince William and his wife Kate.

It was their first big public appearance together since the burial of Prince Philip, the queen’s husband of more than seven decades, in April.

Prince Charles also talked to the G7 leaders about his Sustainable Markets Initiative, which aims to include industry and private sector involvement in government climate change initiatives.

“The fight against this terrible pandemic provides, if ever one was needed, a crystal-clear example of the scale, and sheer speed, at which the global community can tackle crises when we combine political will with business ingenuity and public mobilization,” the prince informed them, as quoted by Reuters.

Charles, 72, who has spent most of his life advocating for environmental causes, told them, “Ladies and gentlemen, we are doing it for the pandemic. So if you don’t mind me saying so, we must also do it for the planet,” as quoted by Reuters.

The queen’s reception was held at the Eden Project, which is known for its unique bubble-like Biomes that hold hundreds of plant species.

The project is located near Carbis Bay, a Cornish coastal resort on southwest England’s coast, where the G7 summit is taking place.
