Disgraced R&B star-turned-convicted sex offender R. Kelly was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Thursday on another set of sex crimes, including a number of child pornography charges.

However, in real life, only one additional year was added to his already ongoing prison term of 30 years from a previous sentencing. Nineteen of those years will be served concurrently. Back in September, the 56-year-old was found guilty of three counts of child pornography and three counts of child enticement. He was acquitted of a fourth pornography count and a conspiracy to obstruct justice and attempt to fix his state child pornography trial in 2008.

Kelly is serving a 30-year prison term for his 2021 racketeering and sex trafficking convictions in New York. At the conclusion of the recent trial, U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber ordered Kelly to serve one year in prison. This is the following the racketeering sentence, imposed in 2022 in New York.

People on social media reacted to his latest sentencing, saying that the charges levied against him were not enough.

The jury found that Kelly had produced three videos of himself sexually abusing his then 14-year-old goddaughter. He was charged of a count that he had attempted to block an earlier investigation into his abuse of the goddaughter, and two other counts of enticing minors to have sex.

Prosecutors had asked for a 25-year sentence to be served once his other 30-year prison sentence is complete. “Robert Kelly is a serial sexual predator who, over the course of many years, specifically targeted young girls and went to great lengths to conceal his abuse of Jane and other minor victims,” prosecutors said in a filing. “To this day, and even following the jury verdict against him, Kelly refuses to accept responsibility for his crimes,” it added.

However, the judge ruled that all but one year of the prison sentence would be served simultaneously with the previous sentence.
