The second night of the Republican National Convention began with President Donald Trump announcing pardon for Jon Ponder who was arrested for a bank robbery and later founded a non-profit organisation which runs integration program for former inmates. President Trump also oversaw the naturalisation ceremony for new American citizens. The five new US citizens also included an Indian-origin woman. Speaking from the newly renovated White House rose garden, first lady Melania Trump thanked frontline healthcare workers for their efforts in tackling the coornavirus pandemic. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo broke the long-standing tradition as he addressed the event from Jerusalem. Trump’s children Eric and Tiffany Trump also presented their father’s case urging people of America to consider the results and not rhetoric. The scaled-down GOP (Grand Old Party) convention is being held in virtual mode due to the raging COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier on Monday, US President Donald Trump was nominated by the party for a second term. Trump will face Democratic candidate Joe Biden in the US presidential elections on November 3.
