The Second Lady of the United States Karen Pence addressed the Republican National Convention on Wednesday evening. She started her address with lauding the 19th amendment passed in 1919 that granted women the right to vote.
Pence eschewed politics and spoke about the issues faced by military spouses. She mentioned that her daughter and daughter-in-law are military spouses, whom she referred to as “home front heroes”.
“Military spouses may experience frequent moves and job changes, periods of being a single parent while their loved one is deployed—all while exhibiting pride, strength, and determination and being a part of something bigger than themselves,” she said.
She also mentioned military spouses who’ve built successful businesses.
She also spoke on the issues faced by veterans, especially post-traumatic stress disorder and said art therapy helps to deal with it.
In her six-minutes address, she acknowledged the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic and lauded the first responders.
“In these difficult times, we’ve all seen so many examples of everyday Americans reaching out a hand to those in need,” she said, hailing them as “heroes all”.
