Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced today that he will run against Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination.

He is the son of the late Robert F. Kennedy, who served as the attorney general and a notable senator for the United States in the 1960s.

Kennedy had three marriages throughout his life, and he fathered a total of 6 children. Here’s a deeper look at each of his marriages:

1. Emily Black:

Emily Ruth Black was John F. Kennedy’s first wife. They married in 1982 and have two children, Robert Francis “Bobby” Kennedy III, and Kathleen Alexandra Kennedy. He went to the University of Virginia School of Law, where he met Black. In 1994, the couple filed for divorce.

Kennedy had many highly publicized relationships throughout their marriage, which apparently put a lot of strain on their family life. Black opened up about her ex’s adultery in a 1996 interview with New York magazine, declaring that “He’s a wonderful father, but he’s not a faithful husband.”

Despite their split, Black and Kennedy have stayed friendly, and Black has even proclaimed their bond in public.

Kennedy’s second marriage, in contrast to his first, is said to have been free of adultery and other marital issues. Nonetheless, the pair made the announcement of their divorce after 16 years of being together

Kennedy declared his divorce from Mary on May 12, 2010, and was arrested for driving while intoxicated three days later. Mary was discovered dead in a structure on the grounds of her Mount Kisco, New York home on May 16, 2012. The death was deemed a suicide by asphyxiation from hanging by the Westchester County Medical Examiner.
