Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was trolled on social media for unintentionally suggesting that the people of Tampa Bay, Florida were not hard-working or church-goers like those residing in western Pennsylvania and northeast Ohio.

The screenshot of a particular quote from his recently published political memoir went viral on social media. “I was geographically raised in Tampa Bay but culturally my upbringing reflected the working-class communities in western Pennsylvania and northeast Ohio — from weekly church attendance to the expectation that one would earn his keep. This made me God-fearing, hard-working, and America-loving,” he said.
The quote was mentioned in an NBC article titled, “How Midwest roots shaped Ron DeSantis’ political values and perspective.”While DeSantis, now a likely candidate for president, might not have meant to mean anything negative against the very place where he was born and raised, his quote left the impression on many people on Twitter that he was actually speaking out against the people who lived there.
Here are a few reactions after his quote went viral on social media.

Tampa Bay is a very diverse place with a huge population of Latin Americans – and it’s awfully telling that he’s implying (insanely) that these people don’t go to church or work hard pic.twitter.com/hP5jKvx52t

Pretty odd and offensive statement here from DeSantis to his Tampa Bay constituents.
Sometimes untested politicians just try too hard. https://t.co/BhD5t7LT98

DeSantis, a lawyer, politician, and former military commander from the United States has been the 46th governor of Florida since 2019. With the intention of challenging DeSantis for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, Donald Trump has been bashing him for months.
Trump just came up with a new jab at the Florida Governor’s pronunciation of his own name. Trump reposted a DeSantis video on Truth Social. The governor identified himself by name throughout a number of events that were combined into the video. DeSantis changes the way he pronounces his last name in the clips, from “Dee-Santis” to “Deh-Santis.”
