The screenshot of a particular quote from his recently published political memoir went viral on social media. “I was geographically raised in Tampa Bay but culturally my upbringing reflected the working-class communities in western Pennsylvania and northeast Ohio — from weekly church attendance to the expectation that one would earn his keep. This made me God-fearing, hard-working, and America-loving,” he said.

The quote was mentioned in an NBC article titled, “How Midwest roots shaped Ron DeSantis’ political values and perspective.”While DeSantis, now a likely candidate for president, might not have meant to mean anything negative against the very place where he was born and raised, his quote left the impression on many people on Twitter that he was actually speaking out against the people who lived there.
