Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is ready for the fourth phase of its highly anticipated upcoming releases of ‘Shang-chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings’ and Ryan Reynold’s ‘Free Guy’.  Bob Chapek, Disney CEO, announced that both the movies will be released exclusively in theatres. 

But the films will only play in theatres for the first 45 days after then they will become available on Video-on Demand and streaming services.

Shang-Chi and Free Guy will be Disney’s first pure theatrical releases since the 20th-century film ‘the Mutants’. ‘Free Guy’ is all set to release in the US on August 13, whereas the SImu Liu starrer Shang-Chi will be released three weeks later on September 3.

Chapek said the company has seen “recent signs of increased confidence” among the audience for the movie-going experience.

On Thursday, during a call to discuss its second-quarter earnings Disney confirmed due to the continued closure of offshore markets, they have opted for a day-date theatrical/Disney +Premier.  This came after the studio announced that Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt- starrer adventure film ‘Jungle Cruise’ will debut in theatres and will also stream on Disney play the same day. Emma Stone-starrer ‘Cruella’ and marvel Studios ‘Black Widow’ will also have day and date releases in theatres and on Disney Plus.
