A shooting incident occurred near the set of NBC’s Chicago Fire, disrupting the filming of the Hollywood series in Chicago

Police confirmed that an unknown assailant, armed with a handgun, shot at a group of people standing in the 5900 block of West Madison around 1:45 PM. Deadline cited a source close to the matter saying, several cast members of the drama series were close and cameras were rolling at the time.

Nobody was hit and the attacker quickly fled in a dark SUV.

Law enforcement officials were already present on the scene to provide security and were able to respond quickly. Though nobody was injured, production was reportedly halted for the day. Deadline refuted accounts of the bullet ricocheting off some of the production’s equipment.

The police are still looking into the matter, but for now, it remains unclear who the gunman was targeting.

Previously, Justified: City Primeval saw two gunmen smash through the barricades of the set, as cast and crew ducked to avoid bullets. Timothy Olyphant, who plays U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, was present on set that day. Following this incident, Sony improved security on the Chicago set, by sending a team trained in high-threat situations.

Deadline reported an experienced hostage negotiator also joined, as an added layer of security. His team consists of former Navy SEALs and Army Rangers and was brought in to make future locations as safe as possible.

However, a few weeks later, filming stopped in a different location after an “incendiary device” was thrown toward the set, as per the Chicago police. Nobody was hurt in this incident either.

All three of NBC’s Chicago shows, which include Fire, PD and Med, come from Dick Wolf, the veteran producer. They have separate filming stages at the Cinespace Chicago studio complex. However, they regularly shoot on location all throughout the city.
