A spokesman for Dave Chappelle has issued a statement in response to an audience member who assaulted him at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Tuesday night.

“As unfortunate and unsettling as the incident was, Chappelle went on with the show,” Chappelle’s representative, Carla Sims said in a statement, reported CNN. “Jamie Foxx and Chris Rock helped calm the crowd with humor before Chappelle introduced the last and featured musical guests for the evening.”

The man who tackled Chappelle, identified as Isaiah Lee, had a knife and is now in custody, according to Los Angeles police.

An onstage assault on Chappelle was captured on video.

According to LAPD spokesperson Officer Lizeth Lomeli, Chappelle “had finished his act and as he was exiting the stage, a male who was part of the audience jumped on the stage and tackle(d) this celebrity to the ground.”

Lomeli said Lee, 23, was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon and sent to a hospital for treatment. She stated that the victim “was not injured as a result of the crime.”

Lomeli described the weapon as a “knife blade.”

Officer Rosario Cervantes of the Los Angeles Police Department told CNN that the man was carrying a knife that looked like a pistol.

According to an LAPD press statement, police later released images of the weapon, which was retrieved and booked as evidence.

Chappelle, according to Sims, is “fully cooperating” with the police inquiry into the event.

The apparent motive for the attack is unknown.

It was also unclear whether Chappelle filed a formal police report.

Chappelle was in attendance at “Netflix is a Joke: The Festival.”

“We care deeply about the safety of creators and we strongly defend the right of stand-up comedians to perform on stage without fear of violence,” a Netflix spokesman said in a statement to CNN.

According to Jed Simon, an audience member at the show, Chappelle was closing up his routine and preparing to introduce a musical act when a man went up to the stage and tackled him.

Simon stated that he was seated in the third row with his companions, enjoying the show, when he witnessed the incident.

“Some guy in front of us just climbed up on the stage. I was like ‘what the f*** is happening? He came right from the audience.” Simon told CNN. “Next thing I know he lunges at Dave and tackles him to the ground pretty aggressively. I was like what is going on?”
