The South Carolina Highway Patrol has initiated an investigation into a tragic accident that unfolded on Friday afternoon, resulting in the loss of three lives and leaving one individual injured.
The incident occurred on Fairfield Road, close to Henderson Road, at approximately 3:38 p.m. According to the preliminary information provided by the troopers, the driver was navigating along Fairfield Road when their vehicle veered off the left side of the road, ultimately colliding with a ditch before striking multiple trees.
Following the collision, emergency responders rushed to the scene, and the injured driver was promptly transported to a nearby hospital to receive medical attention. Unfortunately, the three other passengers who were also inside the vehicle at the time of the accident did not survive and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office reported an additional distressing detail: the vehicle caught fire in the aftermath of the crash. This unfortunate turn of events has made it impossible to formally and legally identify the victims at this juncture. To overcome this obstacle, the Coroner’s Office has outlined a plan to conduct a thorough forensic examination, slated for the following day. Simultaneously, efforts will be made to obtain pertinent records that can help in the process of identifying the deceased victims.
