A reported shooting near South Carolina State University prompted the school to go into lockdown for two hours early Monday morning.

A notice from the school’s Office of Institutional Advancement claimed the campus was closed due to a shooting in the vicinity shortly after midnight.

Orangeburg County authorities advised the lockdown.

During the lockdown, no vehicles were permitted on or off campus, and students were encouraged to remain in their dorms. 

There was no information available regarding where the shooting occurred or how many persons were involved.

There was no word on probable injuries or deaths as a result of the shooting, nor was there any information on a motivation for the shooting or whether any students were involved.

Around 2 a.m. Monday, the lockdown was lifted.
