Search was underway for suspect after a person was shot in the parking lot of Southland Mall in Taylor, Michigan, on Tuesday afternoon following an argument

The shooting took place shortly after 1.15 pm on Tuesday (Aug. 30). There was an argument in the parking lot outside the mall following which shots were fired. One person who sustained injuries was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. The person was in a stable condition.

Investigation was ongoing and a search was underway for the gunman. Authorities did not provide description of the suspect. The mall was not placed under lockdown. 

The incident comes a day after a man opened fire inside a Safeway grocery store in Bend, Oregon, killing 2 people. 

Shortly after 7pm local time on Sunday, 20-year-old Ethan Blair Miller entered Forum Shopping Center’s parking lot and opened fire with his AR-15-style rifle.

Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said, “At approximately 7:04 p.m. we received a call for service at the Forum Shopping Center. Multiple 911 calls came in. As police responded we had reports of at least one possible or two active shooters in the area. The calls were shots being fired. We believe the shooter entered from a residential area behind the Forum Shopping Center. The shooter moved through the parking lot from the Costco on the west end shooting rounds an AR-15-style rifle.”

The gunman then entered the Safeway grocery store and shot two people – an elderly customer and an employee who attempted to disarm him. Miller was then found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
