Texas Senator Ted Cruz is being criticized, following reports of his older daughter’s attempted suicide, for taking his daughters to the Astros’ World Series parade in New York earlier this month.

It was reported on Tuesday that Caroline Cruz, 14, was hospitalized with self-inflicted knife wounds, but she was doing okay. “This is a family matter, and thankfully their daughter is OK. There were no serious injuries,” reps for the Republican politician told the media. “The family requests that the media respect their daughter’s privacy at this time.”

Such a drastic decision by a 14-year-old girl made people question the politician’s treatment of his daughters in the past. That is when people pointed out that he had taken his daughters to watch Game 4 of the ALCS, where Yankee fans booed and flipped him off.

Later, Cruz was showered with boos as he stood on a float with his daughters, waving at the crowd lining the street during the parade. Then one fan escalated the situation by throwing a beer at him. He was later identified and arrested. Fortunately, Cruz was not seriously hurt in the incident. He even posted a photo from the game with his daughter, Catherine.

People on Twitter dug up that instance and heavily criticized the politician’s decision to take his daughters along on the float in the midst of the negativity.

“POS Ted Cruz brought his kids to ride with him in the Astros parade when he knew he would be continuously boo’d and flipped off because Houston hates him. Felt bad for the kids, during the parade and generally in life that their dad is a tool,” one of them said, while another wrote, “At Astros WS victory parade, Ted Cruz and his wife had their daughters on a float with them as the crowd booed him for hours. Poor kids clearly uncomfortable. Child abuse.”

One more said, “As much as I despise and hate TED CRUZ, I do feel for his Children. Remember not too long ago when they were at the Astros World Series Parade, and everyone was booing him as his children looked on? I felt so bad for them, and I was disgusted at people for not noticing them.”

A Twitter user wrote, “I haven’t read any stories on it yet, was just following the flow of the conversation here. Hopefully she receives the love and help she needs. When I saw how he exposed his daughters to the boos and negativity he received at the Astros parade, his selfishness was on display.”

Caroline came out as bisexual at the age of 13 and openly declared that she opposed her father’s conservative political views. “A lot of people judge me based upon him at first glance,” she said in a TikTok. “But I really disagree with most of his views.”
