“Charity can’t replace policy, but solidarity is how we’ll face climate change and build a better world,” tweeted AOC.

AOC has teamed with Texas congresswomen Sylvia Garcia, Penny Morales Shaw and Shelia Jackson Lee. Together they have helped Houston Food Bank to raise more than $5 million to provide relief.

The Houston Food Bank said in their statement to ABC News, that it distributed 1,000 emergency pallets between February 17 and February 21. The relief packages contained water, shelf-stable food and produce.

“Their efforts to amplify the awareness of need here in southeast Texas has been a huge help,” they said in their statement and commended the congresswoman for their efforts.

Abhi Rehman, a Texas Democrats spokesperson said in his statement to ABC News, “Ted Cruz showed the entire world who he is when he ditched Texas during our greatest time of need. No amount of pandering is going to change that.”

“Texas won’t forget who was there for us during our greatest time of need and we’ll hold those accountable who weren’t,” he further said.

Cruz has shown regret for leaving Texas amid the crisis and on-second thought says “I wouldn’t have done it.”
