Six women filed a lawsuit against Tesla on Tuesday, alleging a culture of sexual harassment at the electric carmaker’s California plant and other locations, including unwanted touching, catcalls, and retaliation against those who complained.

The harassment lawsuits, which come roughly a month after two others, add to the existing controversies surrounding the Fremont facility in the San Francisco Bay area, which include a Black ex-employee receiving a $137 million award in a racism case.

One of the suits claim, “Tesla’s factory floor more resembles a crude, archaic construction site or frat house than a cutting-edge company in the heart of the progressive San Francisco Bay Area.”

The suits argued in at least one instance that explicit or provocative tweets by Tesla CEO Elon Musk influenced the tone at the workplace.

Tesla did not immediately react to a request for comment on the lawsuits, which claimed that CEO Elon Musk’s explicit or provocative tweets altered the workplace’s tone in at least one instance.

The six different lawsuits filed Tuesday in a California court allege that coworkers or superiors made sexual solicitations to the women, made graphic comments about their bodies, and inappropriately touched them in some cases.

Five of the women in the new cases work or used to work at the Fremont production facilities, while one worked in southern California service centres.

When one of the women started her job at the Fremont factory, she was 18 years old, and within weeks, her supervisor and coworkers were making explicit comments about her body to her face.

One male coworker sexually harassed her, claiming that plant employees had sex in the parking lot frequently. After two months, she decided to leave.

It is alleged in her suit that she “saw other women experiencing the same environment and witnesses will testify that they observed the rampant sexual harassment at Tesla.”

In their case, the other women claimed that they were retaliated against for reporting the misbehavior.

“When Tesla launched the Model Y, Elon repeatedly pointed out that when one reads the Tesla Models S, 3, X and Y together, it spells ‘SEXY,'” one of the suits said. “Some of Ms. Mederos’ co-workers latched onto this, calling everything ‘sexy.'”

This new lawsuit follows a California jury’s decision in October that Tesla should pay a Black ex-employee $137 million in damages for turning a blind eye to racism at the Fremont facility.
