The 46th President of the US, who signed the COVID-19 relief bill on Thursday and set the landmark humanitarian precedent for American policy, has been on a roll since the start of his Presidential term in January 2021. Biden, who was taking over the Oval Office from former president Donald Trump, was expected to spend the first 100 days of his term putting out fires.

However, Biden has been challenged every step of his way and has shown an exemplary record of a progressive style of governance. Biden’s hurdles, in the American political spectrum, started days before he took office with the US Capitol coming under attack by a Pro-Trump mob on January 6.

COVID-19 vaccine rollout

Throughout his campaign for the Presidential elections, Biden often reiterated that his priority will be to contain, mitigate and provide solutions for the pandemic that had been plaguing the world for months. He vowed to release America from the shackles of the virus and said that he will vaccinate at least 100 million residents of the country in his first 100 days.

When Biden took office, around 984,000 shots were being administered in the country on a daily basis, however, in a span of 51 days the average inoculation rate has gone up to two million per day, according to Time Magazine. Moreover, the revolutionary Johnson & Johnson jab, which eliminates substantial logistical challenges and has shown promising results in the pre-rollout trials, has been approved under the Biden administration.

Rethinking American diplomacy

In contrast to the diplomatic standpoints of former US President Trump, the Biden administration has curated policies that are considered to be proactive instead of reactive. White House officials, in addition to the US State Department, have often called out Russia’s actions towards the recent protests relating to Alexei Navalny, a fierce critic of Vladimir Putin. Moreover, a three-way diplomatic channel, which includes the European Union, has been agreed upon while re-establishing relations with Iran in order to re-negotiate the JCPOA.

Revamped immigration policies

Under former US President Donald Trump, the immigration policies of the US took a stringent turn with a flurry of travel bans from Islamic countries following multiple executive orders signed by the President. In his first few hours as President, Biden also signed nearly a dozen of executive orders, most of which were aimed at revoking the measures established by Trump. Biden also promptly terminated all the work on the wall that was being built at the southern border of the US, under the Trump administration.

Biden’s administration has been responsible for significant and landmark changes in American politics including America’s re-joining of the Paris Climate Accord, putting a show of strength in the Indo-Pacific region by pushing the Quad Alliance, establishing the presence of the US around the world by maintaining communication and alliances and choosing one of the most diverse and inclusive cabinets in the history of US.
