US golf star Tiger Woods, on Tuesday, was recovering from surgery after meeting with a freak accident that led to
serious leg injuries, AFP reported. At the time of the accident, Woods was
driving through a suburban Los Angeles road which is infamous for its characteristic
fatal road accidents.

“He is currently awake, responsive, and recovering in his
hospital room,” AFP reported the representatives of the US golf legend as
saying on his Twitter account late on Tuesday.

Furthermore, in the same tweet, Woods’ physical damages were
termed as “significant orthopaedic injuries” by Harbor-UCLA Medical
Center chief Amish Mahajan, who highlighted the areas most affected to be the
lower right leg and ankle.

Woods was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the
time of the crash, said Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, who added
that the car was travelling at a “greater speed than normal”.

“Apparently the first contact was with the center
median, and from there (the car) crossed into the opposing lane of traffic, hit
the curb, hit a tree, and there was several rollovers during that process,”
AFP quoted Villanueva as saying.

The car reportedly lay in the grass on the side of the road,
a few hundred feet off the spot where the first impact was made, with its hood
badly damaged.

Genesis Invitational golf tournament.
