As we celebrate the LGBT Pride month, there’s still a stigma in society about being a queer or coming out of the closet. Many parents struggle with their children’s revelation about being gay, due to the misguided traditional views. Many Politicians have put views and opinions about gay marriage and other gay rights out in the open. Some of them have voted to take rights away from gays while others have come in support.

Earlier on Friday, Michaela Kennedy Cuomo, youngest daughter of Governor Andrew Kennedy Cuomo identified herself as a queer via social media posts. Michaela shared the post on Thursday night and captioned it, “Today, I stand in my queer identity with pride, and in memory of those who came before me.”

“I love, support, and couldn’t have more pride in Michaela,” Gov. Cuomo responded to his daughter’s post in a statement. During his tenure, Cuomo championed gay rights including approving a law that legalizes same-sex marriage in 2011. LGBTQ activists lauded Michaela.
