The National Weather Services has placed Milwaukee County under a Tornado warning until 12:45 p.m local time. Local news agency Fox6 has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Merton, Wisconsin, on Wednesday.

The stretch extending from Milwaukee metro and southern Wisconsin has been placed under numerous tornado warnings.

The Services said in a statement that a severe thunderstorm located at 12:09 p.m. local time was moving at a speed of 35 mph along a line extending from Menomonee Falls toward Mukwonago. The statement said that the thunderstorm was capable of producing tornados.

Ozaukee, northwestern Waukesha County, northeastern Jefferson County as well as Rock, Walworth, and Kenosha counties were also placed under tornado warnings by the weather services. 

No closings of schools and other businesses have been reported as yet. Although flight cancellations are likely, authorities are yet to announce them. 

A twitter user called Charlie Bourdo who describes himself as a “storm chaser” shared a picture of the tornado passing north of Lac La Belle, Milwaukee earlier.

Earlier, a tornado hit Gaylord in North Michigan, killing at least one person. At least 23 people were also reported injured because of the Tornado. 

PowerOutage.US had reported that the Gaylord tornado first hit Detroit and caused power outages in more than 22,000 customers in Northern Michigan which included a third of Gaylord’s utility users.

Alyson Bruner, a correspondent with SpectrumNews1WI shared videos on Twitter showing people taking shelter in the parking of the Marquette University Law School. She later updated that the warning has expired and the students are gong back to class.

The Milwaukee Area Technical College also confirmed that the Tornado warning has been taken down since and classes can resume as usual at the campus.
