Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Guiliani has cited British TV show ‘Game of Thrones’ as his inspiration for the rousing speech he gave at a MAGA rally last Wednesday, hours before a group of right-wing, Pro-Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol complex.

In the rally held in Washington D.C., Giuliani reportedly told a huge throng  of Trump supporters that they should all ‘have trial by combat!’.

According to American news website The Hill, Guiliani was attempting to make a reference to a scene from the popular TV show ‘Game of Thrones’.

“I was referencing the kind of trial that took place for Tyrion in that very famous documentary about fictitious medieval England,” Giuliani said, as reported by The Hill. “When Tyrion, who is a very small man, is accused of murder. He didn’t commit murder, he can’t defend himself, and he hires a champion to defend him.”

Guiliani‘s comment has drawn criticism from users on the Internet, who point out the very obvious fact that ‘Game of Thrones’ is not a documentary, but a TV show.

When the character of Tyrion Lannister (played by actor Peter Dinklage) used the phrase “trial by combat” in the series- in season 1 and season 4- a spirited duel to restore the honour of the accused took place. Both ‘combats’ left a person dead in their aftermath.

“It incited no violent response from the crowd,” Giuliani also said, according to The Hill, denying any association between his speech and the deadly riots that took place later in the day.

According to media reports, for his speech, Guiliani is under investigation by the New York State Bar and could possibly be expelled, if found guilty for ‘inflicting damage’.
