Tucker Carlson has finally broken his silence for the first time after his shocking ouster from Fox News. He posted a cryptic video message on Twitter that did not have any information on why he was leaving the cable news network where he worked in a prime time slot for years and instead seemed to take a dig at an old clip of former Daily Show host Jon Stewart roasting him back when he worked for CNN’s short-lived show, Crossfire.

Amid his complaints about the state of American discourse, Carlson stated in the video that he had noticed “when you step away from the noise for a few days,” how nice some people are.

“The other thing you notice when you take a little time off is how unbelievably stupid most of the debates you see on television are,” he added. “They’re completely irrelevant. They mean nothing. In five years we won’t even remember we heard them. Trust me, as somebody who participated.”
He might be alluding to the time back in October 2004, when Carlson used to work for CNN, co-hosting a show called Crossfire. Comedian Stewart roasted him after he appeared on Crossfire to promote his book. When Carlson was singled out by Stewart for criticism, he counter-criticized Stewart for being biased toward liberals.
Stewart made fun of Carlson’s bow tie during his appearance on the show. Speaking to Carlson, Stewart told the host: “I’m here to confront you because we need help from the media and they are hurting us. I made a special effort to come on the show today because I have mentioned this show as being bad.”

The comedian told Carlson, “You’re as big a dick on your show as you are on any show” at one point in the conversation. When Jon was asked years later about his appearance on the show, he said, “It really was not my intent to be disruptive. I truly thought we’d have a goof about how terrible the program is at the top, and move on.”
The clip had gone viral recently on Twitter of their old exchange after the news of Carlson’s ouster made it to social media.
Carlson left Fox News without explanation on Monday. However, numerous news outlets have reported that Carlson was fired at the request of Fox owner Rupert Murdoch for using sexist language for a former female executive.
