Following a string of shootings overnight in New York City, two people have died and numerous others have been injured.

Just after 10 o’clock at night, according to authorities, a 23-year-old guy was shot in the foot while he was sitting in his car in the Edenwald neighbourhood of the Bronx.

A triple shooting was reported at the NYCHA Sonia Sotomayor Houses on Bruckner Boulevard less than an hour later.

According to police, three males in their 30s were taken by ambulance to local hospitals. A 32-year-old who had been shot in the stomach was one of them, and his condition was rated as critical.

Officers then discovered a fatal shooting at Lexington and East 116th Street in East Harlem around 11:30 p.m. Shell casings and a moped were strewn over the sidewalk.

“As I’m putting my key in the door, I hear five, six shots. And I think, I have to call the police,” resident Peggy Morales said.

According to police, a 55-year-old male was struck in the torso and leg. He was brought to Harlem Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

“It is ominous. It’s troubling that I had to shoo my grandchildren and their mother into their flat to ensure their safety”, added Morales.

Before another fatal shooting in Middle Village, Queens, there were two more shootings that occurred around 12:30 a.m. A 19-year-old was hit in the torso and died as a result. Additionally, a 21-year-old was shot in the arm.

Both of the fatal occurrences have not yet resulted in any arrests.
