George Floyd’s family is publicly showing support for Tyre Nichols and they will be there at his funeral, their attorney has confirmed.

Nichols is a 29-year-old Black man who was severely beaten by five Memphis Police Department officers during a traffic stop, leading to his death three days later. People across the nation are protesting against the meaningless death of Nichols, which seems to have racist undertones. Incidentally, the same undertones were noticed in the case of Floyd, an African-American man who was murdered by a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during an arrest made after a store clerk suspected Floyd may have used a counterfeit twenty-dollar bill, on May 25, 2020.

Ben Crump, the civil rights attorney, is representing the Nichols family and also represented the Floyd family told TMZ. The exact number of members who will be attending has not been confirmed yet. However, it is being said that multiple members of Floyd’s family will be at the ceremony Wednesday in Memphis.

Although the Floyds had sent their condolences after the death of Nichols, to his family, the two families have never met in person. That will happen when they meet up at the Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church in Memphis for the funeral.

Nichols’ family has also been invited to join ongoing efforts to get the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act passed by Congress. The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act passed the House in 2021, but stalled in the Senate.

President Joe Biden has now renewed his efforts to get the police reform bill passed by partisan support, especially after the shocking body cam footage from Nichols’ arrest went viral on social meida.
