Vitaly Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, has proclaimed a state of emergency in the Ukrainian capital, effective from midnight local time.

He stated a “operational headquarters has been set up to coordinate the actions of the executive branch, the military command and law enforcement agencies” in a message posted on his official Telegram channel.

This would involve, if necessary, the imposition of a curfew and a unique admission and departure regime, as well as vehicle movement restrictions.

The measures, according to Klitschko, will also include “strengthening the protection of public order and facilities that ensure the life of the city,” as well as prohibiting mass events and protests, as well as the “production and distribution of information materials that may destabilize the situation.”

Military “conscripts and reservists are prohibited from changing their place of residence without notifying the relevant authorities” the notification stated.
