Multiple people were injured after gunshots were reportedly fired near a car show in Peck Park in the San Pedro neighbourhood of Los Angeles, California. While the Los Angeles police department had initially issued a city-wide tactical alert, they’ve now updated that it is no longer an active-shooter situation, with Fox reporting that the suspect is in custody. 

This isn’t the first mass shooting in the US in 2022 and not even the first shooting at a car show. 

Here’s a look at the other car show shootings in the country, thus far. 

Dumas, Arkansas 

A gunfight between two people in Dumas, Arkansas, on March 19 left one dead and 26 injured. Brandon Deandra Knight, 22, of Jacksonville, Arkansas was arrested and charged with first-degree battery and aggravated assault. 

Arkansas state police said, in a statement that gunfire “swept across a crowd attending a local car show”, after the two went at it in a parking lot in Dumas, 90 miles southeast of Little Rock.

Five children, ranging from 19 months to 11 years, were among those injured. Meanwhile, 23-year-old Cameron Shaffer of Jacksonville died as a result of the shootout. 

Authorities said that the there was no evidence that the two had planned a mass shooting and were simply engaged in a gunfight which resulted in casualties. 

Memphis, Tennessee 

Gunshots were heard on Saturday, May 28, in Memphis at Chelsea Avenue and Peres Avenue. Officers from the Memphis Police Department (MPD) investigated after it was found that four people were shot and another was hurt.

Vincent Billingsley, 27, was arrested and charged with being a convicted felon who possessed a handgun.

The incident took place at a car show, and Fox spoke to residents who noted they’d seen such car shows before but not to that extent. 

Residents, at the time, expressed concern about the shooting.
