Hiland Dairy, a US-based dairy company,
recently announced a recall on nearly 240,000 half-pint packages of its chocolate
milk over concerns that the product might contain food-grade sanitizers.

According to a report published by
the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), protocols were not followed in a
facility based out of Norman, Oklahoma, “resulting in a small amount of ‘one
product’ being incorrectly filled”.

The product in question was the
one-percent low fat chocolate milk of Hiland Dairy, the website of the US regulatory
body further indicated, displaying the carton number labelled with a UPC code
72060-00156-3 with a sell-by date of January 27. It also displayed the corresponding
plant number to be 4025.

“Hiland Dairy initially learned of a
potential issue and then confirmed after internal quality-control testing at
the Norman, Oklahoma facility. The company promptly contacted the U.S. Food and
Drug Administration (FDA) to initiate the product recall”, the FDA said in a release
on its website, further adding that the dairy company, to ensure 100% containment,
would be recalling all the products with the 1/27 code.
