The Democratic-controlled House of
Representatives Leader, Steny Hoyer, announced that the vote to impeach outgoing President Donald Trump will take place on Wednesday, reports PTI.

During a conference call regarding the matter on Monday, Hoyer told his party colleagues that the House will vote on a resolution urging Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment on Tuesday, and then plan to vote on the impeachment resolution on Wednesday at 9 am ET.

Co-authored
by Congressmen Jamie Raskin, David Cicilline and Ted Lieu, the article of
impeachment — co-sponsored by 211 House members — was tabled on Monday.

The article of impeachment charges Trump with ‘incitement of insurrection’ for his irresponsible remarks and actions on January 6 that led to the killing of five people, including
an officer of the US Capitol Police, during the US Capitol violence.

As
far as the success of this impeachment attempt is concerned, the Democrats, so far, have
enough votes to impeach the president in the House which requires a simple
majority, on the other hand, the US Senate, where both the Republicans and Democrats consist
half of the capacity would require votes of two-thirds of the members to remove
the president out of the office.

However, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris can also add one vote to the Democrats when
necessary in her capacity as Chairperson of the Senate.

For those unversed, this marks Trump’s second impeachment proceedings in the tenure of 4 years as President after December  2019, when the House of Representatives approved articles of impeachment on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Meanwhile, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar also introduced two articles of impeachment
against Trump on Monday evening. The first article cites Trump’s abuse of power for attempting to
overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia. The second article
addresses the incitement of violence for orchestrating an attempted coup
against his own country.

“I
just introduced my impeachment resolution. The full House will now vote on a
measure calling on Vice President (Mike) Pence and the cabinet to remove
President Donald Trump under the 25th amendment. If Pence does not act, the
House will move to impeach this week,” Omar said.
