Former President Donald Trump claimed on Tuesday that he voted for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and predicted that Republicans will have a “great night.”

When questioned by reporters outside the Palm Beach polling place where he cast his vote, Trump replied, “Yes, I did.”

“I think we’re going to have a very great night and it’s exciting,” he continued.

At the Morton and Barbara Mandel Recreation Center in Palm Beach, just a few minutes away from his Mar-a-Lago mansion where he intends to watch the results this evening with a large number of aides, pals, and local Republicans, Trump cast his ballot shortly after 11:30 am ET. After casting his vote indoors, he arrived with the former first lady Melania Trump and took a few questions outside.

The results of Tuesday’s midterm elections might have a significant impact on the former president’s political destiny as he hopes that his handpicked and endorsed candidates in crucial federal and statewide races will win. Significant defeats for Trump-backed candidates might pose challenges for his 2024 presidential bid, which he plans to launch in one week.

The last weeks before Election Day have seen a public outpouring of long-simmering enmity. At a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, Trump declared himself the front-runner in a fictitious GOP primary, took a direct shot at DeSantis, and gave the governor a new moniker.

Trump presented purported poll results to the crowd from a screen, saying, “There it is, Trump at 71 (percent), Ron DeSanctimonious at 10 percent.”

Republican businessman Joe O’Dea, who is running for the Colorado Senate, recently received DeSantis’ support. O’Dea had previously promised to “actively campaign” against Trump.
