The Donald Trump administration has okayed and sent for approval
to Congress a $1 billion arms export deal to Morocco, Reuters reported on
Friday.

The deal includes four MQ-9B SeaGuardian drones made by
privately-held General Atomics, and Hellfire, Paveway and JDAM precision-guided
munitions made by Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Boeing, Reuters wrote citing
sources.

The deal is likely to have been in works as the US brokered
peace between the Arab nation and Israel, which was announced yesterday.

The US has also acknowledged Morocco’s sovereignty in the
Western Sahara region, eliciting criticism from Polisario Front, a faction
which stands in opposition to Morocco’s authority in the region.

The arms deal comes days after the country approved sale
of highly sophisticated F-35 to UAE, a move which the Democrats opposed in the
Senate but failed to halt.

A deal with Morocco would be among the first drone sales
after the Trump administration moved ahead with a plan to sell more drones to
more countries by reinterpreting an international arms control agreement called
the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR), Reuters wrote.
