President Donald Trump called off talks over a stimulus package with the Democrats on Wednesday. The US President further asked Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell to approve the candidature of his Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett.

The United States President who is currently recovering from COVID-19 and was discharged from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Monday, took to Twitter to announce that the Republics were calling off discussion on a stimulus package.

The US President blamed US House of Representative leader Nancy Pelosi for demanding $2.4 trillion dollars to “bail out poorly run” Democratic states. The President unloaded on the House of Representative leader and said, “Nancy Pelosi is asking for $2.4 Trillion Dollars to bail out poorly run, high crime, Democrat States, money that is in no way related to COVID-19. We made a very generous offer of $1.6 Trillion Dollars and, as usual, she is not negotiating in good faith.”

The US President further wrote that he was rejecting the request of the House Democrats and was focusing on the future of the United State. He held the Democrats to the pulpit and pinned the failure of the passing of an economic stimulus fairly and squarely on them.

Donald Trump went on to say, “ I am rejecting their request and looking to the future of our Country. I have instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election when, immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans and Small Business.”

The President instead asked Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell to approve his pick for the US Supreme Court. Trump urged McConnell to ensure the swift appointment of his outstanding Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett.

The President tweeted, ” I have asked Mitch McConnell not to delay, but to instead focus full time on approving my outstanding nominee to the United States Supreme Court, Amy Coney Barrett. Our Economy is doing very well.”

He further emphasised that the US economy was doing exceedingly well and added, “The Stock Market is at record levels, JOBS and unemployment also coming back in record numbers. We are leading the World in Economic Recovery, and THE BEST IS YET TO COME!”

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had rekindled hopes of securing an agreement on the long-standing additional stimulus package aimed to reinvigorate the American economy, on Monday. The Democratic leader was communicating with Mnuchin negotiations had broken down a few weeks back.

The two sides had been negotiating on a follow-up economic package that would set the US economy rolling. This package would come in addition to the $2.2 trillion CARES Act passed earlier in the year, and would seek to mitigate the blows of the coronavirus pandemic that has left millions jobless.

The negotiations were revived last week with a series of phone calls and in-person meetings between the Treasury Secretary and House Leader Nancy Pelosi who is currently in charge of the House of Representatives.

President Donald Trump had been asking for a deal but the Republicans and the Democrats could not settle on the amount needed to kickstart the economy.

While the Democrats had requested an amount of $2.2 trillion, Republicans were only willing to spend $1.6 billion.
