On directions of Joe Biden, the US has carried an air-strike on Syria that killed 22 people, while attacking Iranian-backed militia, AFP reported. This authorisation came from the US president after the US troops were attacked in Iraq. The attack was made at an Iraq-Syrian border which was used by an Iran-backed militia group.

This was the first attack against an Iranian-linked group by Joe Biden since he became the president some weeks back.

The attack was planned to destroy the facilities used by the militia in eastern Syria.

According to the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights, 22 fighters were killed in the attack which was launched on three trucks that were coming to Syria from Iraq.

According to AFP, all the people who died from the attack were members of the Hashed al-Shaab paramilitary force of Iraq. This umbrella group, state-sponsored by Iraq also contains some pro-Iranian groups under it. The location on which the attack was made was, however, used by Kataeb Hezbollah and Kataeb Sayyid al-Shuhada. These Iraqi groups are pro-Iranian. Although these groups are yet to give out any official statement, it is reported that one of the fighters from Kataeb Hezbollah was dead.

Syrian media has condemned the US attack against Iraqi soldiers that is in collation with the Damascus government.

The timing of the attack on the US military complex in Iraq on February 15 made things more complex for Joe Biden who was looking to make negotiations with Tehran over its nuclear programme. Kataeb Hezbollah has denied association with the attack on the US but the latter believes that strong Iranian groups were behind the attack on them in Iraq.
