The West Coast of the United States is now entirely controlled by Democratic politicians after Kim Wyman, a member of the Republican party, left her statewide elected office. Steve Hobbs, a member of the Democratic Party, will be taking over the office of Washington’s Secretary of State.

The news comes as the Democrats recently suffered a major electoral blow in the Eastern states of New Jersey and Virginia.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security hired Wyman as an election security lead from the administration of President Joe Biden.

The 59-year-old politician, a lifetime member of the Republican party, was reportedly critical of former United States President Donald Trump when he claimed election fraud in the 2020 elections, according to reports from Newsweek.

Jay Inslee, the Governor of Washington, brought in Hobbs to fill in the position, which has been occupied by a Republican politician for the last five decades. Five members of the Republican party have served as the Secretary of the State of Washington in the last 15 elections.

Caleb Heimlich, the chairman of the Washington State Republican Party said in a statement, “This selection is a complete disservice to the voters who elected an elections professional and now are getting someone with little to no technical experience.”

He added, “It is a shame that Inslee prioritized partisan politics over voter confidence in our electoral system”, according to reports from Newsweek.

Washington, California and Oregon are now completely filled with Democratic politicians in statewide elected positions, which include the offices of Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Treasurer and Lieutenant Governor.

Michael Starr Hopkins, a Democratic strategist of California, said in a statement, “While it was always kind of a Democrat state, there were liberal Republicans. The Republican Party doesn’t have space for liberal Republicans anymore. And so I think that’s just the dynamics of where we are as a country”, according to reports from Newsweek.
