Alex Murdaugh murder trial has seen more than five weeks of testimony in the fourteenth circuit of the South Carolina Circuit Court. The 64-year-old has been accused of the murders of his wife and their 22-year-old son in June 2021.
The closing arguments took place on Wednesday. However, some social media users pointed out at Alex Murdaugh smirking when prosecutor Creighton Waters delivered his final statement.
“I’m sure hope the jury can see Alex Murdaugh smirk continually and the lack of tears. What a dirtbag,” a Twitter user wrote.
“Alex Murdaugh needs to wipe the smirk off his face,” another one added.
“Better stop smirking Alex. Where did all those fake tears go? Now would have been a great time for some fake crying and head-bobbing,” a user said.
“Does it not look like Alex Murtaugh is smirking during Waters closing? Sometimes he’s even smiling. You’d think he would want a better ‘show’ to the jury,” fourth user wrote.
Murdaugh has pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in connection to the 2021 fatal shootings.

After hearing more than five weeks of testimony from more than 70 witnesses including Murdaugh himself, the jury traveled to the house where Maggie and Paul were killed in June 2021, near dog kennels on the property. Initially, Murdaugh told police that he was not at the kennels before finding the bodies there, but admitted in court his voice could be heard on a video taken on his son’s cellphone minutes before prosecutors believe that killings happened.
Prosecutor Creighton Waters finished his closing argument in the murder trial of Alex Murdaugh shortly before 5 pm Wednesday.
Waters said Alex Murdaugh lied and fooled everyone who felt like they knew him as he made his final plea to the jury. Murdaugh, fooled Maggie and Paul Murdaugh too, “and they paid for it with their lives,” Waters added.
He said everything Murdaugh did the night his wife and son was murdered was meant to deflect blame.
