The nationwide manhunt for former Alabama corrections officer Vicky White and Casey White, the inmate she helped escape from an Alabama jail, came to an end on Monday when the former died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the two were captured in Indiana following a car chase. 

Casey, 38, and 56-year-old Vicky were reported missing on April 29 after leaving the Lauderdale County Detention Center. Vicky, who was an employee with the Sheriff’s Office for over 15 years, had helped Casey escape. ‘

After receiving hundreds of tips in 11 days, authorities managed to capture them in Evansville, Indiana, after a car chase. Casey, who was a murder suspect, surrendered to the cops. Vicky was rushed to a local hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot where she died.

After stepping out of the wrecked car, Casey reportedly told the officers, “Please help my wife. She just shot herself in the head, and I didn’t do it.”

This has speculations that the two were married, though investigators previously confirmed that they weren’t related.

According to The Associated Press, Vicky was married to a man that she divorced in 1991. He died earlier this year.

Meanwhile, authorities said the search was challenging for authorities. 

“This escape was obviously well planned and calculated. A lot of preparation went into this. They had plenty of resources, had cash, had vehicles, had everything they needed to pull this off, and that’s what made this last week and a half so challenging. We were starting from ground zero, and not only that … they got a six-hour head start on us.”
