It was Manchester United’s Carlos Henrique Casimiro who saved the day for Brazil on Monday as the football giants faced off against Switzerland in their second match of Group G as he made the only goal to help his team come out on the top.

The first half was relatively quiet. Vinicius had a goal disallowed after 67 minutes for offside. With only 10 minutes remaining in the game, Brazil scrambled to beat their opponents. Casemiro struck a near-perfect goal to give Brazil a 1-0 lead in the 83rd minute.

Casemiro laced his effort into the top corner as Vinicius tried to play a one-two with Bruno. The ball fell within reach of Casemiro who hit it in his very first try to give Brazil the lead in the game and ultimately handed them the victory.

Earlier, Vinicius Jr.’s goal in the 65th minute seemed to be the “it” moment for the world’s no. 1 team but VAR intervened. This resulted in his opener being chalked off because of an offside call. The first half wrapped up without much excitement or many clear goalscoring chances for either side.

Former Brazilian footballer Gilberto Silva described the midfielder as Brazil’s “invisible man” before the game started. It was meant to be a tribute to the midfielder’s skill to quietly do the team’s dirty work. However, in this game, Casemiro became the center of attention at the end. He and his teammates huddled together in a circle to celebrate his victory by jumping and singing in front of their fans at the side of the ground.

Brazil is set to top their group in this world cup after winning their opening match against Serbia. Having the maximum number of points will guarantee them a top spot with a point against Cameroon in their final game.
